Newsletter Q11 – Child protection programming in conflict affected settings

CHILD PROTECTION IN REFUGEE CAMPS

In this quarter, activities planned to be implemented in Mao Komo district in Ethiopia remained suspended due to increasing levels of violence.

Instead, refugees who have re-located from Tongo refugee camp (in Mao Komo district) to the Tsore camp (Homosha district) participated in the project activities.

Given this situation, it is worth taking a closer look at the project’s approach to child protection programming with refugees and in conflict-affected settings.

Including the voices of children in advocacy work is essential to respond to their needs and to overcome structural child protection issues.

In this quarter, the consortium continued to strengthen child participation mechanisms with the aim to enable children to influence decision makers.

In Q9, JOFA teams involved associations and organisations of people with disabilities at community and national level to identify children
with disability, to strengthen their participation and to tailor the interventions to meet their specific needs.
