Children’s Right to be Heard

We’re Talking; Are You Listening?

Over many months in 2020, Joining Forces partners consulted with children from around the world for its fifth policy brief, Children’s Right to be Heard: We’re Talking; Are You Listening? The brief explores how societal norms, insufficient resources, and a lack of support from adults can inhibit children’s meaningful participation – particularly in the wake of the COVID-19 global health crisis. In addition, the policy brief outlines key takeaways from children on how their participation can lead to outcomes that are more meaningful and impactful for them and society as a whole.

Children shared their opinions and experiences during private plenaries, in writing, and during an online public forum on Universal Children’s Day on November 20, 2020. They also contributed videotaped statements about their right to use their voice and be a force for change. Their powerful messages include calls to action to ensure children’s rights are respected and achieved worldwide.
